On Q Recruitment is proud to be partnering exclusively with RNA Australia to appoint an experienced and forward-thinking Technical and Business Development Director. This senior leadership role is central to the delivery and long-term success of Australia's first RNA manufacturing facility and the broader national RNA ecosystem.

About RNA Australia

RNA Australia is a landmark initiative between the NSW Government and five leading universities, established to build a sustainable, world-class RNA research, development, and commercialisation ecosystem.
At the heart of this initiative is the development of a state-of-the-art RNA Research and Pilot Manufacturing Facility at Macquarie University, scheduled for completion in 2026. This facility will enable the sovereign production of RNA therapeutics and delivery technologies for clinical trials and other advanced applications—significantly strengthening Australia’s biomanufacturing capabilities.

About the Role

As the Technical and Business Development Director, you will provide strategic and operational leadership across the technical implementation, commercial development, and ecosystem engagement functions of RNA Australia.
This role combines high-level technical oversight of the RNA facility's development with a strong focus on industry partnerships, commercial pathways, and stakeholder coordination. You will work closely with the appointed facility operator, government stakeholders, and RNA Australia’s research and industry partners to ensure the facility operates at the highest standard while meeting the broader goals of access, innovation, and sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical oversight of the facility’s development and ensure alignment with regulatory and operational requirements
  • Lead engagement with the facility operator and manage processes for RNA- nominated user access
  • Develop business models and manage contracts for facility use, manufacturing services, and licensing agreements
  • Identify and execute business development opportunities for RNA therapeutics and technologies
  • Build and maintain relationships with government, academia, and industry stakeholders
  • Represent RNA Australia at senior-level engagements and promote the RNA ecosystem nationally and globally

Ideal Profile

You will bring a tertiary qualification in biotechnology, life sciences, business, or a related field, along with 8+ years of experience in biotechnology or pharmaceutical manufacturing. Your background will include leadership in technical operations, regulatory compliance, and commercialisation, ideally within RNA or biologics manufacturing.
Experience working in or with industry associations, regulatory bodies, or large research collaborations will be highly regarded, as will a successful track record in business development or licensing agreements.
You will be a confident communicator, strong collaborator, and agile problem-solver—able to drive progress in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment.
