We’re seeking Collections Assistants to help maintain and manage geological collections, including rocks, minerals, fossils, and associated records. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain experience in collection management and data handling within a national scientific environment.
About the Role
You’ll work onsite in Canberra performing tasks that keep collections organised and accessible. Your responsibilities will include:
- Handling, cataloguing, and storing geological specimens
- Updating and maintaining accurate records in electronic systems
- Assisting with audits and inventories
- Ensuring compliance with collection management procedures and WHS requirements
About You
To succeed, you’ll need:
- Ability to work efficiently under limited direction
- Attention to detail and safe work practices
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office (especially Excel)
- Good communication skills
- Knowledge or interest in natural sciences or museum collections
- Experience with databases or inventory management
- Work with fascinating geological specimens
- Gain experience in collection management and data systems

This role involves some manual handling of geological specimens (usually several kilograms) and occasional use of small ladders. You’ll receive full training, PPE, and ongoing supervision to ensure safe work practices. No prior experience required

- Police check required (no security clearance)
- Hours: 9 AM – 5 PM, Monday to Friday
- Onsite only (Symonston HQ)
