An exciting opportunity has arisen for a skilled data analyst to join a federal health agency in a non-ongoing role as an APS 6 Technical Analyst. This 2-year -fixed term contract offers the chance to work with a multidisciplinary team to analyse hospital and healthcare data and support evidence-based policy development that impacts healthcare delivery across Australia.
In this role, you will work closely with teams from clinical, statistical, and actuarial backgrounds to design statistical models, maintain coding and classification systems, and provide technical insights to guide policy decisions. Your work will directly contribute to transparent, sustainable, and high-quality healthcare services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement statistical methods, maintain code resources, and update documentation
- Analyse hospital and healthcare data to design statistical models and address complex policy questions
- Prepare analytical working papers and technical documentation for a range of stakeholders
- Provide specialist advice on classification and technical issues to internal teams and working groups
- Support the development and evaluation of classification changes with quantitative evidence
- Communicate technical outcomes and insights to management and external stakeholders
- Strong technical and analytical skills, including statistical model development
- Attention to detail and ability to deliver high-quality outputs in a policy-driven environment
- Experience contributing to high-performing multidisciplinary teams
- Critical thinking and ability to assess complex analyses
- Ability to communicate complex technical information clearly
- Qualifications in mathematics, statistics, econometrics, or a related field highly regarded
- Experience with data analysis software such as SAS, SQL, Excel, or Python desirable
- Data architecture or data modelling experience advantageous
- Previous experience in healthcare, hospital, or policy-related data analysis is desirable but not necessary
