Our client, a federal government agency responsible for regulating gene technology in Australia, is seeking an APS 6 Scientific Evaluators to support its scientific and technical assessment processes on 6-month contract. This is an exciting opportunity for a biological scientist to apply their research, analytical, and communication skills in a regulatory environment.
As an APS 6 Scientific Evaluator, you will assess and advise on applications involving genetically modified organisms, supporting evidence-based regulatory decision-making and contributing to the effective operation of the national framework governing gene technology.
Your Key Responsibilities:
- Provide scientific and technical support for applications involving gene technology.
- Conduct evaluations of applications related to activities with genetically modified organisms and certification of facilities.
- Prepare scientific documents, assessments, reports, meeting minutes, and technical correspondence.
- Undertake literature reviews, research, and project work relevant to gene technology regulation.
- Liaise with internal teams and external stakeholders, including scientific committees, government agencies, research organisations, industry representatives, and members of the public.
To be considered for the role, you must be an Australian citizen and have the below skills and qualifications:
- Master’s or PhD qualification in Biology, Genetics, Plant Biology, or a closely related scientific field.
- Strong research background with the ability to conduct in-depth literature reviews and communicate complex technical information clearly.
- Excellent written communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Previous experience in the Australian Public Service or a regulatory environment will be highly regarded but is not essential.
