Our client, a federal government agency responsible for regulating agricultural and veterinary chemical products in Australia, is seeking an APS5 Risk Assessor to support its scientific, technical and regulatory assessment processes. This is a fantastic opportunity for a science professional to apply their analytical, research and communication skills within a regulatory environment that safeguards human, animal and environmental health.
As an APS5 Risk Assessor, you will assess and advise on applications for the registration of agricultural chemical products, ensuring decisions are evidence-based and aligned with relevant legislation. You will contribute directly to the effective operation of Australia’s regulatory framework for agricultural chemicals.
Your Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluate scientific and technical information to assess the safety, efficacy and trade impacts of agricultural products.
- Provide clear recommendations to decision-makers regarding product registrations.
- Review and apply regulatory risk assessment principles in line with legislative requirements.
- Prepare written documentation including assessments, reports, guidelines and technical correspondence.
- Manage confidential commercial information in accordance with legislative obligations.
- Liaise with internal teams and external stakeholders to support the timely processing of applications.
- Tertiary qualification in a relevant scientific discipline such as chemistry, biology, agricultural or environmental science, entomology, weed science, pharmacology, toxicology.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to interpret complex scientific data.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly and confidently.
- Ability to manage competing priorities, maintain accuracy and meet deadlines in a fast-paced regulatory environment.
- Previous experience in the Australian Public Service or within a regulatory setting is desirable but not essential.
